This morning I wanted to talk to you about the uluhal water that I have been drinking in the morning these days. This drink is popular among many people in Sri Lanka. Uluhal is a spice that is used in every household in Sri Lanka during cooking. Therefore, it is very easy to find and does not cost a lot of money. It is also a natural medicine for our body that can be consumed by everyone, big or small. I will clearly write below how I became aware before drinking it, and if you want, share it with someone else.
🔸”Uluhal” is full of medicinal properties – should we use it correctly? 🌿✨
We all know uluhal as a spice, but it is a natural herb that is beneficial for many ailments. Soaking uluhal in water and drinking it, or sprouting it and eating it, provides many benefits to our body.
🔸Benefits of drinking Uluhal water: 💧
- Sugar Control: some people believe it may help support blood sugar balance.
- Weight Loss: Helps burn unwanted fat and control appetite.
- Digestion: Relieves constipation and relieves gastritis.
- Skin and Hair: Provides healthy skin and strong hair.
🔸 My 7-Day Experience Drinking Uluhal Water
I decided to try drinking uluhal (fenugreek) water every morning on an empty stomach for one week as part of a simple home wellness routine.
- Day 1–2:
- The taste was slightly bitter and nutty, but after adding a few drops of lemon it became easier to drink. I noticed it felt warm and soothing to the stomach.
- Day 3–4:
- My digestion felt lighter in the morning and I didn’t feel heavy after breakfast like usual. I also felt less bloating.
- Day 5–7:
- I started feeling less hungry between meals and drank more water during the day naturally. My body felt more refreshed in the morning compared to days I skipped it.
Overall, I personally felt uluhal water worked best as a gentle morning drink rather than a medicine. Results may differ from person to person, but for me it became a relaxing daily habit.
🔸Uluhal water can be made correctly in two main ways:
- First method (soaking overnight):
Put 1 teaspoon of uluhal in a glass of clean water at night and cover it. Strain the water after waking up in the morning and drink it. If the soaked uluhal seeds can be crushed, it is more beneficial.
- Second method (steaming):
If you forgot to soak them overnight, put 1 teaspoon of uluhal in a glass of water and boil it well for about 5-10 minutes, strain it after it cools down and drink it. (1/2 cup or 1 cup.)
🔸Eating Sprouted Fenugreek: 🌱
- Very little bitterness.
- Can be eaten as a salad or lightly steamed.
- Boosts the body’s immunity.
- After sprouting, its vitamin C, iron, and nutrition are several times higher than regular fenugreek.
⭕️ Special attention! (Think about this before drinking): ⚠️
- Although natural, Uluhal does not provide the same benefits to everyone.
- Pregnant mothers: It is advisable to avoid using it.
- Chronic patients: If you are already being treated for diabetes, blood thinners or other specific diseases, definitely start this only on medical advice. (Because Uluhal can react with your medications).
- Dosage: 1 or 2 teaspoons a day is enough. Remember that there is no such thing as too much of anything.
⭕️Special precautions If you drink it every day, you should also be aware of the following:⚠️
- Side effects: Some people may experience stomach upset, indigestion, or a specific odor (like maple syrup) from their body/urine when drinking it daily.
- Excessively low blood sugar levels: If you are already taking medication for diabetes, uluhal may cause blood sugar levels to drop too low (hypoglycemia). Therefore, it is best to do so under medical advice.
- Pregnant women: Excessive intake of uluhal during pregnancy should be used with caution as it can affect uterine contractions.
⭕️Best Practice
“The safest and most effective way is to take it for 2-3 weeks followed by a week off, or 3-4 days a week.”
⭕️ Best for:
- Upon waking up in the morning
- Once or twice a week
- For those over 14 years of age
- For pregnant women, it is mandatory to seek medical advice
